Shenandoah Chefalo is a survivor and alumni of the foster care system. Plagued and embarrassed by her name, made worse by a nomadic childhood that made it impossible to build lasting relationships, Shenandoah developed a tough skin at an early age. Along the way she learned to deal with disappointment, push through discomfort, overcome adversity and accurately gauge people, qualities that have helped her to succeed. Shenandoah is the co-founder of the#4600andCounting, a grass-roots movement to bring awareness and change to the missing youth of foster care and is also a faculty member and trainer at The Center for Trauma Resilient Communities. Her award-winning book, Garbage Bag Suitcase, recounts her journey to overcome her desolate childhood and also presents grass-root solutions on how to revamp the broken foster care system.
